The 26th Standard Bank Jazz Festival, Grahamstown (SBJF) packs a programme of performances that celebrate great jazz legacies by a league of world-class musicians reimagining them with a youthful verve. Audiences will be treated to incredible tributes, celebrations of key musical milestones and youthful takes on jazz jewels by a new generation. Legacies of giants like the Blue Notes, Winston Mankunku’s Yakhal’inkomo, the music of Michael Brecker, Miles Davis and more, all get a new shake with a focus on the future of the jazz.

In keeping with tradition, the 2018 Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz, Thandi Ntuli, will lead two incredible bands to showcase her genre stretching brand of jazz. She will lead her imaginative outfit, the Rebirth of Cool with DJ Kenzhero then return to the stage to present songs from her sophomore record, Exile. In a showcase of durability in friendship and creative collaboration, saxophonist McCoy Mrubata and pianist Paul Hanmer will give a performance of their lives to celebrate 30 years of Collaboration

The SBJF is on from 28 June to 7 July at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.
