FirstRand Bank Subsidiaries
Banking as a whole was changing fast and specialized financial services divisions sprung up within the bank. A massive investment was made into computers and new technology.
In 1998 the financial services interests (which included their shareholding in First National Bank) of Rand Merchant Bank Holdings and Anglo-American Corporation were merged to form FirstRand Limited, which is listed on the JSE Securities Exchange. Consequently, First National Bank became a wholly-owned subsidiary of FirstRand Limited and currently trades as a division of the group.
First National Bank currently operates registered commercial banks in the following jurisdictions: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania, and Ghana. The Namibia and Botswana businesses are listed on their respective stock exchanges.
The FirstRand Group also has operations in India which trades under the name FirstRand Bank and an investment bank in Nigeria which trades as RMB Nigeria. As a universal bank in Ghana, First National Bank offers a wide range of banking products, focusing particularly on digital banking, which serve all segments of the economy.
