Smart ID + Passport
Skip the queues
FNB in partnership with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has launched the application of Smart ID and passport (new/ renewal) to the public. Apply online and collect at one of four FNB Branches:
- Lynnwood (Grove Shopping Mall)
- Centurion Lifestyle
- 4 Merchant Place
Any queries regarding eChannel applications must be directed to the Department of Home Affairs call centre on 0800 60 11 90.
The Process
1. Register + pay
Visit the Department of Home Affairs website
Select ‘eChannel’
Complete the registration process + enter your account details
Login to your Online Banking profile
Approve payment by selecting ‘Pay’, then ‘eFiling’
2. Choose a branch + book your appointment
Login to your eChannel profile
Select a branch (FNB Lynnwood, FNB Centurion Lifestyle or FNB 4 Merchant Place)
Select a time and date for your appointment
Print the confirmation page
3. Visit the branch
Visit the FNB branch at the date and time you have selected
Bring your green ID book (or police affidavit in case of lost/stolen ID) when you visit the branch
Remember
Photos will be taken at the branch
You will receive an SMS to notify you once the Smart ID is ready for collection
Bring your green ID book along when you collect the Smart ID
Rules
- To qualify for a Smart ID, you must be a South African citizen
- To apply for a Smart ID, you need to register and create an eChannel profile, approve the payment via your FNB Online Banking profile and make a booking at a branch
- Unfortunately, no Smart ID payments can be made in the branch – only via FNB Online Banking
- Branches with the service include: FNB Lynnwood, FNB Centurion Lifestyle and FNB 4 Merchant Place
- Photos are taken in-branch
- When visiting the branch for your fingerprints please bring your green ID book (if your green ID book has been lost or stolen please bring a police affidavit)
- The process in branch takes approximately 15 minutes
- You will receive an SMS from the Department of Home Affairs once your Smart ID or passport is ready for collection
- Please bring your green ID book to collect your Smart ID or passport
- Both parents to accompany child for passport applications
- One parent to accompany child for ID applications
- A Smart ID costs R140 and a Passport cost R400. Please note that if your passport has been lost or stolen and is still valid the Department will charge a replacement fee of R800 instead of R400. If your ID has been lost or stolen please bring a police affidavit when you apply in branch stating as such.
- The confirmation of application must also be brought when collecting either Smart ID or passport.
- Senior citizens do not pay
