First National Bank Mlife Card

First National Bank Mlife Card, I’ve been searching through the forums and have not seen too much chatter on the First National Bank of Omaha or the Mlife credit card it issues.

Here is my issue, and I’m curious to hear from anyone with experience with this bank.

I applied for the Mlife card about a month ago and was instantly approved for a larger credit line. It isn’t a great card by any stretch, but with 2x at grocery stores it will let me MS the bump I’ll need in tier credits to remain at platinum status with the Mlife casino group.

Card came in the mail about a week or so after approval, as to be expected. However, this would be the last seamless experience with the card.

Once I started using it almost every transaction of any size ($500+) would be declined. I’d call up the customer service number and be immediately transferred to fraud prevention, asked a long list of questions to verify my identity, and then after several attempts on their end the charge would finally be allowed. This pattern repeated for several weeks, and while it is annoying, I was hoping the computer would eventually just see this as my regular activity (as it does with most cards) and would stop the declines.

Two days ago this pattern happened again. Charge $1,500, decline, call, wait, talk, wait, final approval.

About 15 mins later I attempt to use the card at a Walmart for $40 and it is again declined. I call back and get the standard apology and told that they are going to send my case to a manager to get a long-term solution put on the account.

Well, the manager calls me a few hours later and wants to verify that I made a recent payment, which I did. He asked me if I have been buying gift cards with the card, and while I wanted to say no, looking at my charge pattern it’s pretty obvious some of the charges are for gift cards. I say yes, but also groceries, items for work etc. I checked the terms and conditions of the card, it says cash equivalents don’t earn points, but it does not explicitly say gift cards.

My account has been locked for the last few days. I can’t use the card, nor can I log in online.
